Negril Jamaica
Runaway Bay
11:00am

Partly cloudy, hot and humid with a light breeze.

50 to 65 feet deep. 40 foot viz. water temp in 80’s. 30 minute dive (per dive master)
Flat reef just out past the entrance of the bay. Did not dive with enough weight so buoyancy was a little off. Somewhat of a disappointing dive. Jamaica is very much over fished and it shows. I didn’t see a fish that was over 6 inches. Over fishing is very common in the Caribbean islands. I had high expectations for the reef ecosystem here, and it did not live up to them. The reef was pretty bland and looked like any other place in the Caribbean. Don’t get me wrong, I mean this is still a Caribbean reef……  They are all nice. I’m sure there are other parts if Jamaica that are better (reef wise not fish wise).
There was a finger like crevice about 3 to 4 feet tall that ran about 15 feet long. When we were flying in to negril you could see a lot of the finger crevices all over the reef shallows.
