| March ? 2002 St. Thomas USVI First time ever sailing. Went for a sailing/snorkel day trip aboard the heavenly days. It was a nice catamaran sail boat with a full bar. We sailed and drank rum punch for two hours until we hit Johns Island. The entire island was a preserve. The islands here are more like hills than the mountains we had previously seen. The captain and crew were very nice. You could tell that we were back in the USA as the island (St. Thomas) was wealthy, and had more homes than huts like the other countries we visited. We went snorkeling with mom on a shallow patch reef. It was totally cool diving with mom as she is a strong swimmer and a good diver. We took lots of (bad) underwater pictures. There were very few octocrals but lots of nice tropicals. The reef was not typical Caribbean fan fair. The area was sort of bland with nice coral heads here and there. We were feeding the fish off the back of the boat and were taking turns swimming in the large school of fish. We didn't stay on Johns Island to long. We hung out with the captain and got sailing lessons on the way back. Ginger & Brian Catanzaro 11-26-03 |
