Boynton Beach w/ splashdown divers cap’n lyn & Kevin Afternoon two tank dive. Full boat Overcast 90’s 80+ water temp < 40 ft viz STRONG N current. flat seas 100 cf nitrox 37% Dove on the fingers, outside edge about 70 feet Better than I remember from last time but my least favorite dive on the reef as the depth changes a lot unless you swim around the finger which sucks because you are likely to be fighting the current a lot. No Bugs….. Capt’n said bugs are scarce this year. Shawn shot a hog snap Coral looked fairly good. Usual sponge damage and little lyngbya around. Saw a couple turtles, one huge leatherback under a ledge. New BC works good but back float is difficult on the surface. Hard to see strait down with full face mask on. (harder than regular mask) Com package didn’t work (mental note…change batteries for each trip) getting better with the full face mask. It’s good for working but bad for hunting. When we came up from the first dive the wind kicked up and the seas were getting ugly, and white capping. Second dive was on “No Name” When we hit the bottom I thought it was going to be a lame dive but it actually turned out to be pretty good. Lots of niche habitat. Inside edge. About 50+ feet. Weaves in and out like the fingers but the relief is much lower. Ahhh, it was god to dive upside down again….. (w/ mask and reg) Saw a couple bugs, tickled a big one out of the hole but no luck. Shawn shot a hog snap and a small Grouper. Saw another turtle or two, and a HUGE school (1500+) of gray snapper. I came up with more air than shawn…..(very rare) at one point in the dive I had 600 pounds more than shawn……. Must have been from him chasing a bug (they can swim quite fast). Great dive The wind died down a bit and the seas laid down a little. No white caps but still a little rough. |
